Cheeky folk-blues nostalgia from a Yukon wordsmith.
Award-winning singer-songwriter Claire Ness has an imagination as bright as the midnight sun and a wanderlust reaching from the rugged Yukon mountains to the Atlantic coast, seamlessly blending folk, blues, country, and comedy into a bilingual foot-stomping celebration of northern life.
Born and raised in Whitehorse, Yukon, Claire’s artistic journey was shaped by a fierce commitment to the craft of storytelling and a keen interest in colourful characters. From studying the sharp mechanics of comedy writing in Toronto to mastering the gravity-defying poetry of circus arts in Montreal, Claire has spent a lifetime gathering the tools to do what she does best: keep an audience completely spellbound.
When it’s time to truly kick the dust off the floorboards, Claire Ness hits the stage alongside The Rubies, featuring the driving rhythm of Genesee Keevil on upright bass and the soaring, lightning-fast melodies of Keitha Clark on fiddle. Together, this powerhouse trio delivers an interactive, high-energy show that bridges worlds and languages.
Claire is also the founding Artistic Executive Director of the Yukon Circus Society. For the past 15 years, with her team of circus enthusiasts, she has been bringing circus workshops, summer camps, and performances to Yukon and NWT communities. Claire Ness, auteure-compositrice-interprète primée, possède une imagination aussi brillante que le soleil de minuit et une soif d'aventure qui la mène des montagnes escarpées du Yukon à la côte atlantique. Elle fusionne facilement le folk, blues, country et l’humour dans une célébration bilingue et entraînante de la vie nordique.
Originaire de Whitehorse, Yukon, le parcours artistique de Claire a été façonné par un engagement profond envers l'art de raconter des histoires et un vif intérêt pour les personnages hauts en couleur. De l'étude de l'écriture humoristique à Toronto, et des arts du cirque à Montréal, Claire a consacré sa vie à acquérir les outils nécessaires pour exceller dans son art : captiver son public.
Quand vient le moment de faire vibrer la scène, Claire Ness monte sur scène avec The Rubies, accompagnée du rythme entraînant de Genesee Keevil à la contrebasse et des mélodies virtuoses et fulgurantes de Keitha Clark au violon. Ensemble, ce trio exceptionnel offre un spectacle interactif et débordant d'énergie, unissant les cultures et les langues.
Claire est également la directrice artistique fondatrice de la Société du Cirque du Yukon. Depuis 15 ans, avec son équipe de passionnés de cirque, elle propose des ateliers, des camps d'été et des spectacles de cirque aux communautés du Yukon et des Territoires du Nord-Ouest.
