BIOGRAPHY

Claire Ness grew up in Whitehorse, then studied Comedy Writing and Performance at Humber College in Toronto and Circus Training at École Nationale de Cirque in Montréal.

 

Claire is a prolific songwriter in a variety of genres: blues, country, folk, jazz, children’s, musical theatre, francophone, and comedy. Her catchy tunes contain vivid imagery, elaborate metaphor, historical allusions, and intricate storytelling. 

 

Claire won a Canadian Folk Music Award and a Western Canadian Music Award for her children’s album “Broccoli Farm”. The title track "Broccoli Farm" was also a semi-finalist in the International Songwriting Competition. 

Claire is a recipient of the the Yukon 125 medal, an award given to 125 Yukoners who embody the values of leadership and reconciliation and who contributed significantly to the wellbeing of the territory.

Claire is the Founding Artistic Director of the Yukon Circus Society and for the past 15 years has been focused on bringing circus workshops and performances to Yukon communities. For more information on the Yukon Circus Society, check out www.yukoncircussociety.com

Originaire de Whitehorse, Yukon, Claire a étudié l'écriture et l'interprétation comique au Collège Humber de Toronto et a suivi une formation de formateur en cirque à l'École nationale de cirque à Montréal.

 

Claire est une auteure-compositrice-interprète prolifique dans une variété de genres musicaux : blues, country, folk, jazz, musique pour enfants, théâtre musical, musique francophone et humour. Ses chansons entraînantes regorgent d'images saisissantes, de métaphores élaborées, d'allusions historiques et de récits complexes.

 

Claire a remporté un Prix de musique folklorique canadienne et un Prix de musique de l'Ouest canadien pour son album pour enfants « Broccoli Farm ». La chanson-titre « Broccoli Farm » a également été demi-finaliste au Concours international de composition de chansons.

 

Claire a reçu la médaille Yukon 125, un prix décerné à 125 Yukonnais qui incarnent les valeurs de leadership et de réconciliation et qui ont contribué de manière significative au bien-être du territoire.
